Display a Growing in Grace Banner on your site!

Mike and I are very thankful for all the wonderful support from friends and listeners of the Growing in Grace podcast. People are finding out about the program all the time, and many lives are being touched weekly through the message of God's unconditional love and grace. This is due in large part to people like YOU who are spreading the word! Thanks so much for telling others about the program.

Here's one more way to get the word out. If you have a blog or other site on the web, feel free to add a Growing in Grace Banner to your site. It's very easy - simply choose from the banners below, and then copy and paste the HTML code that's below the banner onto your web page.

Volunteers to help me find some 'best of' material?

Hey all, in about 10 weeks Kap and I will air our 200th Growing in Grace program! Hard to believe it. It's been a great four years of casual discussion about God's love and grace.

For our 2ooth episode, I had the idea of basically putting together a bunch of highlights from our past programs. I've been going back and listening to some of the programs, trying to collect some material. It's a bit time consuming for our huge staff (me!) and I wondered if anyone would be willing to volunteer a little bit of time during the next few weeks to go through a handful of programs and make note of stuff that might be included?

This would involve listening on a computer or mp3 player and finding 5 to 45 second sound bites (approximately) that speak to you in some way, or that you think would speak to others, and simply making note of the times that the bites start. I would then be able to go to those programs and cut out the individual bites.

This is no big deal... just an idea I had... and if anyone's able to help out it would be appreciated. Depending upon the response, I'll kind of divvy up an assortment of programs to individuals so everyone's not listening to the same programs. Either respond here or email me at the address on the side column of this blog.

Thanks!

Mike and Joel - Growing in Grace program

I've updated our Growing in Grace podcast page with a couple of new pics. In case any of you are not aware, my friend Mike and I record a weekly 14 minute program for Grace Walk Internet Radio called "Growing in Grace." (All our past programs are archived as a podcast and are freely available to be downloaded). Our program began in February 2005, and since then we've aired 133 programs.

I met Mike in 1994 when I went to work at a local Christian radio station. He was the Program Director. During the next year or so, Mike began understanding and appropriating the biblical message that we would eventually come to know as the grace walk or the exchanged life. He became part of a church that itself had recently begun to preach a solid grace message. The pastor had formerly been a very legalistic Word of Faith preacher, but had "caught" the message of God's grace and had transitioned his preaching to the pure gospel message. Because of this huge change, many people left the church.

I was a wet-behind-the-ears volunteer DJ with absolutely NO experience in radio when I started working at the radio station and Mike trained me in everything I did. Over the months and years, we had lots of neat little conversations about God's grace. Through these conversations, and through Mike's sharing of the sermon tapes from his church with me, I eventually began understanding my identity in Christ better, and I became passionate about teaching the message of God's grace and our identity in Christ. Also, after a few months of nagging my wife - um, I mean gently speaking to my wife about what I was learning - we decided together to leave the church we attended and we began to attend Mike's church in 1996.

This church was a great source of life and encouragement for me for three solid years. However, our pastor was moved to go on to some other things in life, and at the end of 1999 the church decided to stop meeting together. (If I had known then what I know now, I probably would have strongly urged us to remain together, even without the benefit of this great source of preaching).

Fast forward to 2005. I had been earnestly praying for like-minded fellowship ever since those days. We did begin to attend a different church in early 2000, but I really lost the intimate grace-fellowship that I had been thriving upon. The Lord brought me to the Grace Walk Forum in early 2005, and I met some wonderful people and have had some great conversations there! One of the people I met was Dave Lesniak, who, among the 6,000 hats that he wears is the station manager for Grace Walk Radio. Having seen that I was in radio (I was still in radio at the time, but left two years ago), and knowing my passion for the grace message, Dave invited me to have a program on the online station. I talked to Mike about hopping on board with me and the rest is history.

I thoroughly enjoy recording these programs with Mike. I think it helps both of us to be encouraged in God's grace as we simply sit and chat about it informally. Through the podcast site, we've heard from people from all over the world and we're encouraged that the grace walk message is reaching so many people!

Featured on MyCCM again / Godcast 1000

For all you who know me, you know I don't "glory" in this type of thing, but I think it's great to see the various ways in which our Father is working through us. A few weeks ago I mentioned that myccm.org had me as their featured blogger, and through that I found a few new friends there, and hopefully I was able to encourage people with the grace of God. I'm still blogging there... I basically copy and paste my Blogger blogs over to MyCCM. (For those who don't know, I also do the same on MySpace. My blog posts originate here, and I copy them over to myccm and myspace).

Well this week, the Grace Walk Radio program that I record with my friend Mike Kapler - "Growing in Grace," which we also present as a podcast - is the featured podcast of the week over at myccm. The last featured podcast was the nationally known program "Lighten Up with Ken Davis" (you may have heard of that program), and this week it's lil ol' me and my friend. :) If you go to the myccm homepage, and scroll down just a bit, there it is right in the center column.

Also... you may have seen a little "banner ad" that I placed on the side of this blog for Godcast1000. A couple of months ago I submitted our podcast to this site. It's essentially a site that helps Christian podcasters find an audience, and that helps those looking for Christian podcasts to find podcasts.

There are over 1,000 podcasts that have been submitted to this site. During the first week that I submitted our podcast, I didn't see us anywhere in the rankings. Then, after about 10 days I saw Growing in Grace ranked right around number 50 on the site. Then during the following few days and weeks, we gradually moved up into the lower 30's. Today, I just looked, and we're ranked number 25, with an average of almost 40 hits per day!

Again, please understand that I don't glory in this... you all know me hopefully... me and Mike are nothing special... and our Father is working in and through a lot of people to make things like this happen as He gets His word out. And it is very cool to see that there is a hunger for growing in God's grace, amidst all the other religious and legalistic types of podcasts and teachings out there. Don't get me wrong, there are some other great podcasts listed on this site (not all based in legalism)! Take a look and see if there's anything that might interest you, if you're into listening to podcasts. And make sure to listen to Grace Walk Radio!
