Recover Your Good Heart - online study update

Just over a month ago I posted a review of Jim Robbin's book Recover Your Good Heart and then a few days later I posted links to not only the book, but also to an accompanying Study Guide. I suggested the idea of doing some sort of online study and I received some positive feedback, and now it's time to start putting this in motion. My thought is to try to begin the study on the second Sunday in January - the 11th, and meet online on consecutive Sundays. Perhaps beginning at 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific, for about an hour. This is all tentative, and is subject to change, but is a rough idea so we can see who this might work for.

The study guide has ten chapters, and my thought is to try to discuss 1 or 2 chapters worth of material every week. That is, each Sunday we can discuss a chapter or two, depending upon how quiet or 'talkative' people are! The format... I think the easiest thing would be to go with Yahoo Messenger. This may change as well, but right now that's what I'm thinking of.

So... who's up for this?! Check out Jim's site to order the book and Study Guide. The Study Guide, by the way, is available in book form OR as a download. I'll post a separate blog after this one that points to Jim's special offer of a free download of the Study Guide when you purchase the book, through December 12th.

  1. It should be a great study for people to do together. The online format will be new... but I think it should work well!

  4. Joel, I will join whenever I can... One of the board members of People to People Ministries lives in Detroit and I got in touch with him last year. They host a biweekly Bible study during Winter months at their home, which I attend. So, I can make it at least alternate weeks I guess. Thank you for putting this together. I think this is a great idea.

  5. Hey Bino, that's cool... I look forward to the times when you're able to be there. I'm guessing that for some people it will be hit and miss, but overall I think there will be some great conversations as we study the book together over the course of a few weeks.

  6. Hey Joel. I've ordered the book and hope to join in from the frozen plains of Canada. I'm not much of a techie but I am on Yahoo Messenger, but you may have to help me get hooked up to the rest of the group the first time.

  7. Dazerkster,

I will be great to have you as part of this! My thinking with Yahoo Messenger is that it's pretty simple overall, so hopefully it shouldn't be much of a problem to get you and others hooked up with the rest of the group. Right now the "create a room" feature that I was hoping to use has been disabled as they work on it, but I do know that Yahoo Messenger has the ability to have several people at a time in one chat, so that's probably how we'll do it. Basically, when we have the online study, people can sign in and I'll invite them into the larger chat.

For anyone who wants to add me, my ID is jsbreeze111. Might as well do it now. :) Just identify yourself when you request the add so I know who you are.

  8. Thanks for the info, Joel. I'll try to check in at least some. My sister is interested in doing it too if she can. I'll get the info to her so she can contact you. Her name is Carmen but I'm not sure what she uses on Yahoo Messenger.

I also posted this on my blog so you're getting this response twice.
