Recover Your Good Heart - online study starts in 1 week!

We're just one week away from beginning an online study of the book Recover Your Good Heart by author Jim Robbins! All the details, including links to purchase the book and study guide, are here, and I really hope you're able to join in!

We'll begin at 7pm Eastern, 4pm Pacific, and we'll go for about an hour each Sunday until we get through the study guide. I encourage you to get the study guide for yourself, but you won't be turned away from the discussion if you don't have it. We'll do this using Yahoo Messenger (it will probably help if everybody's running the latest version). My id is jsbreeze111. If you'd like to be a part of this study, simply add me as one of your contacts at any time (identifying yourself so I know you're legit. I'll sign on 15 to 30 minutes before the start of each study. When you log on, please send me an IM to let me know that you want to be a part of the study, and I'll invite you into the main chat.

You don't have to "say" anything (type anything) during the chats. You're welcome to just join in so that you can see what everyone else has to say. But in order for this to work, we do need at least some people to chat!

This is something new - I've never done anything like this - so there may be technical issues. We'll play it by ear and see what happens! I'm not the type who is easily flustered if things don't work out in my 'pre-planned' way. We'll do all right, no matter what. ;) Looking forward to some great discussions!

  2. Unfortunately you won't be able to be the invisible man for this one. ;) Actually I had highly considered using Stickam, which is something that people can log onto anonymously and can still take part in the chat, but each time I've tried it there have been huge delays and other technical problems so I scrapped that idea.

I considered an array of other online conferencing options, and Yahoo just seems like it's the easiest and less bug free way for people to connect.

  3. I guess that should say it's the "most" bug free...

  5. Joel, what is the plan for first meeting, is it gonna be an ice breaker or are we diving into the book right away, also I have no study guide so are you going to post some of the things were going to be looking into ???

  6. Leonard, knowing some of the comments you sometimes make, perhaps it would be good if you're idle. LOL... just kidding!

Anyway, I'm not sure what to expect with this. I've been involved in many 'in person' groups before, and each one is different. Sometimes people are quiet and it's hard to keep the conversation going, and sometimes everyone is very talkative and before you know it, the time is up. I don't know what it will be like meeting in a group online.

I think for the first one we'll spend a little bit of time breaking the ice, and then get into the study. It's not required for people to have a study guide. One thing I'm thinking of doing is having myself on video. Steve McVey did a live broadcast on Sunday via ustream.tv, in which people could simply go to gracewalk.org and watch him do his live broadcast. I've signed up with ustream, and I'll be playing around with it to see if perhaps I could be "live" on that during our online study, and everyone could see and hear me reading what the study guide says, and then everyone could discuss it via text on Yahoo Messenger.

There's no real set plan for this. I'm kind of winging it!

  7. It will be interesting, I'm looking forward to it, assuming that today is the day lol. I have used yahoo's built in video chat to talk with my son and others at the same time, it seemed to work pretty good, that might be just as good without possible bugs from an outside program, if you want i'm willing to try it out with you when you sign on early, just as a pre-flight check so to speak :-)
