The answer is always B - 2/22/08

Going back to the beginning of time, before dinosaurs, for this one. ;)

What's the correct wording of this passage from Genesis 2?

A. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of pure evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die."

B. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, "Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." (Gen 2:16-17 NKJV)

C. See no evil, hear no evil!

  1. B!

    Thought you could distract me with the video eh?

    Interestingly I am posting a simulblog on the evil one on Sunday….

    Nice weather your having….

  2. LOL... I was looking at clips from the actual movie... and they are all hilarious, but they have so much profanity in them that I just couldn't post them here. However, the trailer for the movie is funny enough!

    Should be an interesting simulblog that you'll be participating in.

    And yes, the weather is quite lovely here! Hehehe.

  3. Joel,

    Thanks for the additional info regarding the movie. What you posted was good and I thought I'd like to see it but I figured there was a lot of words in it that I'd prefer not listening too.

    Okay, guys, remember there are people here who are technologically challenged. What is a simulblog?

  4. Joel;

    LOL

    I hear you on the profanity. There are a lot of great videos out there but there are a LOT of bad ones!

    As I am sure you have noticed I blog about the TV show Survivor, which has times when it censors or blurs out parts of the contestants bodies (thankfully) but it amazes me how many people (thousands) come to my blog looking for images or videos that are not blurred or censored. Of course when I learned this I increased the possibility of people searching for these kinds of things to find my blog, my blog is a great place for them to come! :)

  5. Hi Aida nice to meet you;

    Sorry for the lingo….

    A simulblog (simultaneous blogging) is when two or more bloggers (and of course blogs) post articles at the same time on the same topic from their point of view, and they link together so you can go from one blog to another reading the various persons point of view on the given topic.

    For example I have a blogger friend I have never met who lives in Portugal (I’m in Vancouver Canada), I’m a Christian and she is not. We take turns picking topics once a month (my turn this time) and we both write articles about the topic, and post them at the same time, then we read and comment on the others article which we do not get to read until the posting. We even use the same image for the article so pour regular guests can quickly see that we are simulblogging.

    This way you have people coming back and forth from various blogs and with various points of view, it can be very engaging and provide interesting opportunities….

  6. Nice to meet you, too, livingsword. That's okay about the lingo. Joel already knows about my technological handicap since I've been using him as tech support when I can't figure out how to do something with my blog.

    Simulblogging sounds interesting. I like anything that generates discussion and sharing of different viewpoints. I'll bookmark your blog so I can check out what you and your friend share. Should be interesting.

    I like that you and your friend can share together without getting manipulative and feeling like you have to be right. I think that's great!

    Thanks for the explanation.

  7. Aida... When the movie came out almost 20 years ago, I wasn't in a place in which I was turned off by profanity, but even so I found that movie to seem to have an exceeding amount compared to other movies I saw at the time, and I was slightly disturbed by it. These days I can still watch things like that and 'filter out' the stuff I don't like, but yet I am very turned off by gratuitous profanity and other stuff like that, whether in movies, music, or whatever.

    The movie itself is absolutely hilarious! And I think they very easily could've made the movie PG and not R and still had a huge audience. That's Hollywood for ya. :)

  8. LS... I like what you do with your blog. I think that's a great way to attract visitors to your blog, since it's something you are genuinely interested in outside of the blogging world, and it's not done out of a motivation to simply get "numbers" on your blog, but rather to bring people to a place in which you have great posts and discussions on all kinds of issues.

    I know that as a result of what you do, you have had a ton of great discussions on your blog and I think it's provided some great edification for believers as well as being a forum for those of different beliefs to discuss and find out more about Christ through those discussions.

    My blog, and my particular reason for blogging, is somewhat different in that I'm not necessarily trying to attract anyone to my site except for those who are searching and wanting to discuss issues that are similar or close to what I'm thinking about. The "extracurricular" things I put on my blog are not really an evangelism tool, so to speak, to attract others, but rather are simply things that represent a part of my personality (as is Survivor with you). From time to time I have heard from people who have found my blog through some of those other things, such as when I posted the Footloose video a while back, :), and that was interesting to say the least, and if God purposes to use those things in a certain way, then who am I to stop Him! But I am personally not trying to grow this blog by putting the extra stuff on it.

    You and I have two unique ministries, and I thank God for both of them! And for all that He is doing in and through everyone else who participates on our blogs and on whose blogs we participate!

  9. Hi Joel;

    I of course also enjoy your blog Joel, and completely agree with your comment.

    Your style is very interesting and engaging. I always appreciate the demeanor in which you interact.

    My blogs are quite multifaceted; they certainly have a salvatory aspect but also a sanctification side. As I have conversations on my blog with many that are non-Jesus followers (and I believe the vast majority of my guests would fall into that category) the delineation between the two is often a place where I “camp”. I do find that it seems many Christians are a bit uncomfortable with my blogs non-traditional “look and feel”.

    I love what you said in your last paragraph and agree immensely.

  10. Hi livingsword,

    I see you have three blogs listed on your profile. On which one will you be doing the simulblog?

  11. Hi Aida;

    It will be at Life on the Blade, about 11:30 AM (Pacific Time) on Sunday.

    (Joel thanks for the ad space :)

  12. Thanks, livingsword. That should be 8:30 eastern standard time so, if I can, I'll try to log on and see what a simulblog is like.

  13. LS... speaking of "ad space," you (and anyone else) might be interested in trying BlogRush (see the left column on my blog). It's free, and it's customizable in several ways. In essence the titles (and links) of your blog posts show up on the BlogRush widget on other people's blogs, and the titles of other people's blog posts show up on the widget on your blog.

    I've been using it for a short while now, just to see what it's all about and if it might grab someone's attention, if they're interested in one of my blog titles that they might see.

  14. Aida... I think that would be the "other" eastern standard time. (2:30pm). :)

  15. Hi Joel;

    I actually noticed it when you first put it up, I may not always comment but I am around. I have considered it and similar widgets but I already have a lot of action on my blog (links etc) so I am not sure if I want to add yet another.

    I am considering adding some more videos to my left sidebar which means probably losing a few other things. Actually now that I think of it Blog Rush would go well on Creation! Hmmmm I think I may try that out…

    Scary thing following my thinking process… LOL

  16. Afternoon should be fine…. LOL

    See what we in the Pacific go thru all the time! LOL

  17. This has been kind of a crazy day for me with two different sessions with grandchildren. This conversation has apparently proceded very nicely without me but I'm back now so I think I'll backtrack a little.

    Joel, I've got to admit profanity to the sake of profanity still bothers me but I've mellowed even in that. Two movies that I absolutely love but have a lot of nasty words are The Shawshank Redemption and Three Fugitives.

    The Three Fugitives is really hilarious and there's a lot of bad words in the beginning but, as the characters get to know each other and change, the words get fewer and fewer. That's a great movie if you haven't seen it. It stars Martin Short and Nick Nolte.

    The Shawshank Redemption is a great movie with Morgan Freeman about institutional life in a prison. It's got a lot of parallels to life in religion. Very interesting.

    However, I still would prefer less bad talk but I guess that's just the way it is right now.

  18. I like what you both have shared about the purposes of your blogs. I found it fascinating that there are different personalities with different reasons yet Father's life comes through both of you.

    I found Joel's blog a few months ago and was immediately attracted to the conversation and what Joel had to share about this life of grace. I looked at your blog, livingsword, and did think it looked strange so I didn't look around too much. Now that I know more about it, when I have a chance, I'll check it out some more.

    I just started my blog in January so it really is very much in the beginning stages but your comments as to why you started your blogs got me thinking of what I think the focus of mine will be.

    My desire has been to encourage the people of God so my focus is probably similar to Joel's. I think I would also like to connect with people who are starting to question what they've been taught but have nowhere to turn for answers. Perhaps my blog might help them find their way out of religion and into the freedom that's in Christ.

    Blogrush sounds interesting and may be something I may want to look into somewhere down the road when I feel more confident with all of this blogging stuff. Joel, I hope you'll let us know what your impressions are after you've tried it out for a while. You too, livingsword, if you decide to try it out.

    I'm sorry this is so long but I've been out of the loop most of the day so I have a lot of catching up to do.

    Sorry, livingsword, about the Pacific thingie. I'm not sorry that you're out near the Pacific but that my math was so bad but it definitely has been a crazy day or, at least that's the excuse I'm using. LOL

  19. Aida... The Shawshank Redemption is a movie that Paul Anderson-Walsh (of The Grace Project) has talked a lot about. He sees many parallels to the Christian life in it, or at least to a "religious" life. (I can't remember at the moment the exact similarities he sees in the movie). I've never seen the movie but I wanna.

    I may do a blog post sometime about my reasons for blogging, along the lines of what I shared here. I really started out when Dave Lesniak asked on the Grace Walk Forum if anyone was blogging. I wasn't at the time he asked, but within a day or two I started this blog.

    I started it mainly for the purpose of having an outlet to write about grace, and then as people came along and began commenting, it became so much more than just me writing. It became much more of an ongoing online conversation among friends, and I really like how it's evolved that way, just like how so many other blogs have evolved.

  20. Joel, I would highly recommend The Shawshank Redemption. It's a phenomenal movie and it definitely parallels the life of bondage for those caught in religion. I really think you'd enjoy it.

    I think it would be great to do a blog post about why you started blogging. I'm not really sure why I started but I know I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't linked up with all of you. One of my friends kept telling me I needed to write but I didn't take her seriously. Besides computer stuff scares me. I'm amazed at what I've been able to figure out about blogging.

    Your previous comment about some of your posts being an expression of your personality really caught my attention and I did a blog post about it this morning entitled "Learning to be me".

    When I started, I wasn't sure how much I would have to share that would be helpful but I should have realized that wouldn't be a problem for someone like me who likes to talk. Like you, I need an outlet since Father is teaching me so much but other than online friends I don't know many people who are interested in listening.

    I'm really enjoying this online community and the great conversations we have. I love the sharing of Father's life that takes place.

    Aida
