Smellin' Coffee

The caption for this on youtube says "When the Boss Is Away the Spazzes will Play!"

I was looking for a video of Smellin' Coffee by Chris Rice and this is all I found... and I'm glad did. :) This one's for you Matthew! Have a cup on me... just don't over-do the French Vanilla!

Last thing I remember sayin’ bye to yesterday
Glad to see it over, pullin’ covers over my head
What were You doin’ while I dreamt the night away
‘Cause I can tell that somethin’s different and
My eyes ain’t even open yet

I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light
My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile
It’s a good mornin’, it's a good mornin’

I remember readin’ You’re the God who never sleeps
While I’ve been dreamin’ You’ve been singin’ over me, yeah
Singin’ about my freedom, wakin’ me up to hear Your song
Now I can’t dance hard enough
‘Cause yesterday is gone, gone, gone!

I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light
My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile
It’s a good mornin’, good mornin’

Every little breath, every heartbeat
Is a gift of love that You give to me
You keep givin’ even when I’m asleep
‘Cause I know You never stop watchin’ over me
I wake up, my past is gone
‘Cause Your mercy’s new with the mornin’ sun
I’m forgiven, I’m free, it’s a brand new day
‘Cause Your faithfulness is the greatest, hey!

I’m smellin’ coffee, birds are singin’ just outside
Here comes Your mercy streamin’ in with the morning light
My heart is racin’, wakin’ up to Your smile
It’s a good mornin’, good mornin’

  1. LOL!

I admit I thought…what is this?...but it sure made me smile and laugh, for which I am always thankful!

Hey Joel…I just thought I would send you a personal invitation to join my little contest over at Life on the Blade.

Maybe not quite your thing but you strike me as the adventurous, live life BIG kind of person willing to try new things…

I'd like to try that new pumpkin spice at starbucks too.

ok..I had better stop. I'm drooling. lol

  3. LS,

I got a kick out of this too. At first I was a little sad that I couldn't find a 'legitimate' video for this song, and when I found this video I wasn't too sure what to think... but I soon began to smile and laugh and I just had to post it!

I saw your contest and although I've never taken part in any fantasy sports, I've always thought it would be fun. If I can get some stuff off my plate and find time to look into it, I'll head over there and see what it's all about. Thanks for the invite!

    Matthew,

I don't know why... well, I guess it's just my taste buds... but I just can't enjoy anything but plain black coffee. :) I don't like anything that is coffee-flavored (such as candy, etc) and I don't like coffee that is flavored. Even milk and sugar turns me off!

What's so weird is that as a child I was turned on to TEA because I was given the option of putting milk and sugar in it, and I LOVED it. But coffee with anything like that in it gives me a headache! My wife is just the opposite. She won't drink plain coffee and she loves milk, sugar, french vanilla, etc... in her coffee. Another difference between me and her is that she'll have a cup in the morning (maybe two cups, but usually just one) and that's it. I'll sip on my coffee all day long! I do, however, mix a lot of decaf in with my caf so I don't overload on caffeine!

Were you around when I shared my green-label coffee experience? That was several months ago, and I'm not sure if we'd crossed paths yet at that time. I think you'll get a kick out of my story. I'll post a link to it.

  4. Hey Joel,

I have a good friend like that. Ronnie loves black coffee. I've not yet hit that next level of man hood yet where I'm able to drink straight coffee lol. Though, I don't use sugar, I still use loads of cream.

I'm with you on tea. I actually visited Idaho back in the summer of '02 and I ordered (in my ignorance) sweet tea. There was not one thing sweet about it. I was in wonder that my current girlfriend at the time hated tea. I now know why. They don't know you're suppose to put sugar in it!! lol I've drank sweet tea since I was a "youngin". Then again, I was born and raised in South "Kurlina". Yuhhh

I seem to remember the title. Not sure if I read it yet. When I first came to your blog, I read lots and lots of your older posts. I was devouring anything that looked like it said grace.

  5. Hi Joel;

I just wanted to tell you I love your blog, and it is never to late to join the contest, we need some wonderful folk from the US, I think the Europeans are outnumbering us…very cool!

  6. Matthew,

It's unseasonably hot right now here in Iowa and I think I'm gonna go make me some REAL sweet tea, using the recipe from Steve McVey's "Grace Rules" book. :) The main thing... to make sure the water is TEPID when adding the tea and sugar. Mmmmmmmm.

    LS,

Thanks for your comments! I'm thinking that if I can get some time to do the fantasy hockey thing while I'm watching some MLB Baseball Playoff action (none of my family sits and watches it with me so I usually watch it and do other things at the same time), then I'll head on over there and join in the fun. It's a big "if," but I'd love to do it if I can!
